Dan Brown, the son of Endless Summer producer Bruce Brown, delivers a spectacular next-generation surf flick. Where Endless Summer II was a welcome and needed update to the original, Step Into Liquid can almost take it's place as the 3rd installment of a trilogy. Surf flicks have thus far, for the most part, been clip after clip of nice ride footage, more often than not accompanied by an underground punk soundtrack (probably an unknown band from Orange County). Step Into Liquid ups the ante, making a strong statement about what surfing has become, and showing the sport as it hasn't been shown before. And the bonus features make this a stand-out DVD package. Highlights include a full-version of "Kelly Slater's Pro Surfer" video game and a full-length version of the film in Windows Media High-Definition Video, but the real draw here is the amazing surf footage.
