Neurotica is the third release from Connecticut-based trio The Dent, and it's a promising and catchy record. Lilting, melodic and filled to the edges with hooks that don't let go, the album owes an undeniable debt to Freedy Johnston, among others. "Neurotica" is the band's pre-requisite "we're gonna take the music world by storm" song, complete with the overused bit about an impending record company advance, which can't help but to seem out-dated in this day of do-it-yourself mentality and general disarray in the music industry. "End of the World," "Several Sides of Sadness" and "Over You" are bright, pop love songs with a well produced and mostly acoustic sound. While Neurotica doesn't quite stand out in a crowd, it is a solid album that holds the promise of greater things to come from The Dent.
