Kyf Brewer has been making great music for years. The model of a self-sufficient artist, he seems to do it all without the need (or want) for a big record label. After listening to Salvador Deli, an album full of well written, tightly produced, radio friendly songs, it's clear that the choice is entirely his.
Much of Kyf's work leans towards the Rolling Stones-esque rock 'n' roll sound, but the beauty of this album lies largely in its melodic and jangly pop songs. From the first track, "Nothing To Do With Being In Love," it delivers finely crafted nuggets of sonic bliss. "Everything She Says" has plenty of 12-string guitars and killer chord changes that leave you panting for the chorus. "Sweethearts of the Radio" is also a standout, and "Donnie Scot" shows off Kyf's versatility and affection for Scottish music.
Salvador Deli is an excellent album and a good introduction to Kyf's music. And don't miss his web site, which contains a complete discography going all the way back to his first band, The Rayvn's, and their song "Raised on the Radio" (made famous in Fast Times at Ridgemont High).
