ARTIST: Marshall Crenshaw (Google this artist)
ALBUM: I've Suffered For My Art...Now It's Your Turn - Live
LABEL: King Biscuit Flower Hour Records
RELEASED: 2001

Recorded live at the legendary Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey. The evening finds Marshall in front of an intimate audience moving through a 14-song set of mostly his own material, and playing in a stripped down situation - vocals and an acoustic guitar, for most of the show - suits him just fine. While much of the joy of a Marshall Crenshaw album (or show for that matter) comes from the melodic and full instrumentation of his band, I've Suffered... gives him a chance to kick back, tell some stories and show off the guitar chops he's become so well known for.

In addition to his own songs, Marshall throws in versions of "Endless Sleep" and The Left Banke's "Walk Away Renee."

While my idea of the perfect Marshall show usually includes Graham Maby on bass, Robert Crenshaw on drums and Marshall working a Strat' in his satin cowboy shirt, I may be clinging too hard to the past. I've Suffered... is a welcome album and an honest showcase of a few songs from the prolific Marshall Crenshaw song catalog.
