Anyone who loved Lloyd Cole in the 80's - then wondered where he went - will be glad he's back. Truth be told, he never left. After making several overlooked albums and compilation appearances during the 90's, Lloyd has released
The Negatives, an album full of the catchy pop and clever lyrics that made him a college radio favorite in the first place. No longer with The Commotions, he is now joined by Jill Sobule, David Derby, Michael Kotch and Rafa Maciejak, collectively The Negatives. Fans will catch the many references to Lloyd's early songs. In 1984's "Lost Weekend" he sings, "It took a lost weekend in a hotel in Amsterdam." On The Negatives he questions it on "Past Imperfect" with "What was on my mind in Amsterdam, 1984?....I can't unwrite the tune or discount the cause." It's nice to know that if we still don't know what some of those songs were about, at least he's still thinking about them! Other favorites include "What's Wrong with This Picture?" and the ballad "I'm Gone."
The Negatives is the first in an expected trilogy of releases from Lloyd Cole.
