Amnesiac,
Radiohead's short-awaited fifth album, may be their least
surprising yet. That's not to say it isn't fantastic, but
this is the first time I haven't been blown away by the
direction that the band has taken on one of their follow-up
albums. To their credit, all the songs on Amnesiac
were recorded during the Kid A
sessions, and therefore sound stylistically familiar. Lead
singer Thom Yorke's return to (somewhat) legible and melodic
vocal lines, and the permeation of actual guitar and piano
chords on this album (all of which were few and far between
in the aforementioned Kid A)
do set it apart significantly from it's predecessor. The
bottom line is that this is the best album I've heard since,
well, Kid A.
