Bonus disc with remixes and new versions of songs from the original album. |
More than 30 years after its release,
All Things Must Pass, George Harrison's musical
catharsis, has been re-released, much to his fans delight.
After spending his Beatle years relatively excluded from
the songwriting spotlight, Harrison created what many
consider to be the best of all the Beatles solo works.
At times grand and exhilarating, All
Things Must Pass is also intimate and playful with
love songs ("I'd Have You Any Time" and "If Not For You"),
semi-experimental songs ("It's Johnny's Birthday")
and classic jams ("Plug Me In" and "I Remember Jeep").
The title track sounds more like a finale, and would have
been right at home on Let It Be, while Harrison
shows off his own distinct style on such gems as "My Sweet
Lord" and "What Is Life." The list of musicians playing
on the album is still staggering and includes Eric
Clapton, Ringo Starr, Billy Preston, Bobby Whitlock, Dave
Mason, Gary Wright and even a newly credited appearance
by Phil Collins.
The 2001 release was assembled by
Harrison himself and contains rare outtakes from the original
sessions, a 2000 remix of "My Sweet Lord" and new artwork,
all packaged in a box format similar to the original LP.
This is a must have for fans, and the perfect introduction
for those who have yet to discover "the quiet Beatle.
