Sleeping on Roads, the first solo outing from Neil Halstead (Slowdive, Mojave 3)
consists of nine tracks of zone-inducing trance-pop.
With muted horns and airy vocals, often set to gentle driving beats,
Halstead creates a easy-going, reflective mood. The effect is largely
the result of his repetitive song structure. Taken to an extreme, it
occasionally becomes tedious. More often, the result feels like a
pleasant yet melancholy mental vacation from whatever the task at
hand might be.
Good Sunday morning listening.
