ARTIST: The Steve Miller Band (Google this artist)
ALBUM: King Biscuit Flower Hour Presents
LABEL: King Biscuit Flower Hour Records
RELEASED: 2002

From the vaults of the King Biscuit Flower Hour, The Steve Miller Band emerges in the form of two live concerts from 1973 and 1976. These vintage shows from Washington, DC and New York's Beacon Theater make a musical statement about Miller - that he's one funk-rockin' bluesman.

While he became a world-renown rock star in the seventies for his string of classic rock hits, Miller's music is largely blues and even funk influenced. The clav-like keyboards on "Mary Lou" and the gritty, syncopated groove of "Shu Ba Da Du Ma Ma Ma Ma" are the evidence. And the spoken interludes show off Miller's amusing, casual irreverence...the kind that helps rock stars get girls.

Classic rock radio fans won't be disappointed either. Hits like "Fly Like and Eagle" and "The Joker" are peppered into the mix, as are "Space Cowboy," "My Dark Hour," "Wild Mountain Honey" and "Gangster of Love."

The packaging of this set also gets an A+. Linear notes include contributions from Paul McCartney (an early collaborator of Miller's) and Les Paul, extensive essays and archival photos.
