Highlights of the soundtrack to Mr. Deeds will come in several varieties. First, there's the new songs from Dave Matthews Band and Counting Crows. The DMB track, "Where Are You Going," is from his upcoming release, Busted Stuff and is sure to keep his hordes of rabid fans happy. Outside of that, the soundtrack offers only songs that have appeared elsewhere, but that doesn't stop it from holding prime real estate in your disc player. In the day of the NOW compilations it seems we're never satisfied by just one artist on a disc, and Mr. Deeds gives us everyone from prog-rockers Yes to Lit and new-comer Trik Turner, whose laid-back rap/groove "Friends & Family" centers the album nicely. Mr. Deeds is full of sweet pop and rock gems, old and new, like Weezer's "Island In The Sun," Travis' "Sing," Pete Townshend's "Let My Love Open The Door" and Bowie's "Space Oddity." The highlight of the album is "Falling" from Ben Kweller. Kweller was signed to Mercury Records at 15 with his band Radish, but the album never took off. With this song from his solo debut (Sha Sha) he shows his talent as a singer and songwriter.
